Digital and eCommerce Design
The evolution of the digital marketplace and eCommerce platforms has been and enjoyable part of my career. I relish new ideas and new technologies while always striving to achieve incredible customer experience and best practice. I champion web accessibility within my role and have spent time learning about and advising on WCAG standards. I use my knowledge about user experience to apply to a range of platforms including desktop, tablet and mobile.
My front-end development skills balance my creative design ideas. I know what can work, what will work and what won't work due to the high level of competency I have achieved using HTML and CSS. My hybrid approach allows me the opportunity to seek out alternative solutions where they exist. Most recently, I have been teaching myself to write my stylesheets using SCSS.
I currently manage all design projects for the eCommerce design team which range from large projects spanning month, to micro projects and ad-hoc tasks. This responsibility includes managing the time of other designers, briefing projects and setting out timelines, milestones and deadlines. I also give feedback on designs, code and plans and often am able to resolve barriers and bottle-necks in projects. This role also includes a high level of communication with project stakeholders, senior managers and other departments within the business alongside my colleagues and other designers in the team.
Mentoring & Coaching
As part of my responsibility as design project manager, I spend a portion of my week mentoring and coaching my colleagues and more junior members of the team. Teaching others and raising the skillset and ability of the team around me is something that provides an interesting and different kind of challenge, and one that I appreciate.
Designing for pleasure is an enjoyable hobby, however, designing for eCommerce and the online market place requires data and insights. I'm competent using Google Analytics to draw data from, to analyse and then to formulate new ideas based on what I see in the numbers.
I'm familiar with Search Engine Optimisation and how it relates to the build of a website. I also understand why it's important and that the balance between great design and expert optimisation is a delicate one. Most recently I've written a ‘How To' manual for the rest of my team which is being implemented across our website in phases.
Email marketing / eCRM
In every role I've worked in since leaving university, I've worked on email marketing campaigns with CRM departments. I understand how to design and code emails, including the syntax required to deal with specific browser/mail client quirks. Additionally, I have experience with and understand the fundamentals of dynamic content and how this can be used with customer databases.
